Graphic Design + illustration

We provide mesmerizing details that convey a higher aesthetic. Or, as one of our clients puts it, “We’re playing with the big dogs now.” Yes, indeed.

AdvertisinG + brand building

Brands and advertising need to lead the charge and stop the viewers in their tracks. (Though preferably not bear tracks. That’d be scary.)

COPYWRITING + PITHY PROSE

Whether a tagline, an ad, an article, or a feature-length screenplay — we love all that is words — that passion of stringing ’em together like pearls.

Discovering Discovery

Brainstorming and blue-skying, researching, and immersing — we need to understand your brand’s story and message, so that we can help to share it in a new and targeted form.

We love this discovery process where concepts and visual relationships develop — and ideas take shape. We ask questions and we listen. We take notes (lots and lots of notes) and we sketch. We sketch in aptly named sketchbooks, on tablets, in apps, and on napkins and coasters. We’ve been known to trace ideas in the sand, find inspiration in patterns, and build concepts out of discarded orange peels.

On our quest to capture purposeful direction, we must always be authentic… all before we put pen to paper or digit to keyboard.

It’s All in the Ephemera

What inspires us? We are collectors. Of type, line quality, tactile materials, and unexpected visual systems. We gaze at the perfect layer of tone on tone and a screen registration intentionally set off. We marvel at a binding created from a No. 2 pencil and the lettuce edge of a brochure. There’s magic in the chunky wooden letterpress that connects us to our design heroes… and reminds us, “Good grief, how did they get anything done with all of those itty bitty, tiny bits of type? And what of the splinters? Were they extensive?!”

But from the ephemera comes inspiration, from the delicate curve of the ampersand that we can echo in the mark of the brand to the perfect deboss left on the iconic, crushed coffee cup — every scrap, every layered texture is pure gold. And worth its weight in storage units.

Hi, Destiny Calling…

“When I was five, I used to draw ads for refrigerators, shoes, and cereal. Not pictures… full-page ads… with body text, logos, and calls-to-action. At eight, I was creating art in the tantalizing counter spaces of newspaper mastheads, and, by 11, I was writing and producing mini newspapers and storybooks that my teacher would let me read aloud to the class (shout out to Mrs. Purcell!).”

Art, design, writing, and the occasional defacing of reading material. It’s always driving us. It’s in our DNA... and in our parents’ old newspapers.

Seriously… splinters, though?
